5.7 Legends for Design
Legend is the vocabulary of design. It can be a beneficial method for analysis and arrangement. In addition, the legends can be an efficient way to show the meaning of design in urban design. Sometimes, one picture says more than a lot of texts. Therefore, we used to begin with a collage assembling reference images into larger composition. In that case the reference images are also the legend. And through these images design can be explained more easily. I am very interested in my design vocabulary (legend). It is very important to express the research of urban context and explain my thought in design to people. Therefore, legend for design will be very crucial part in my design process. In the future, I will try to find diverse ways for legends.
Legends are important to express and to explain what a designer means in their drawings to prevent some misconception between other people. When a legend is simple, clear and not needing any further explanation but still give the right picture to the people who look at it, then it can be called a good legends. The legends itself can be shown with collage, dots, lines, colours, or symbols, depends on our own preference and needs.
In the future, by looking at so many examples that was being made by other people for their legends, I am hoping to be more creative on applying those legends into my design , be smart enough to use them as an attractive kind of drawings to explain my ideas, and be more careful on how to use those legends in different scales
