5.3 Traffic & Noise Analysis
Traffic
A wise transportation is needed to solved urban problems such as traffic jam or air pollution in the future, because not only a wise transportation with sufficient infrastructure would also allow cities to function well, but it also give satisfaction among its residents. Therefore, in my future work, I will consider more about how to design a good public transportation system with not only the train line, light rail, or busses, but also other kind of traffic such as pedestrian and cycling routes to encourage people to start using those facilities in order to protect the quality of air, land and other natural resources.
Almere Spatial Feasibility Two Step Analysis
In this regional scale map, we can see that the city of Almere is still not well connected. The city is still growing and the street network of this city is not working well so that people could get lost orientation easily. Above map shows different network of road as per their characteristics, at present in Almere there are different types of road-streets which we can define as per their width, traffic flow and function at edge of roads.
This city is crossed only by one highway (A6) through the city centre. This highway has a congestion problem during office hour because of lack connection for people who work in Amsterdam. Inside the city of Almere, this highway has 3 big junction that connect to the main roads which serves the connections from highway to city and links with second levels of transport routes. The main road in the north part of the city acts as Almere ring-road that covers urbanization in the north side of Almere. In the first step of analysis, we can see that the highway and the main road (red line) surround the city centre of Almere urbanization. The internal roads (orange line), that directly connect to the highway and main roads, reaches every part of city with different functions and links with smaller and internal streets. This road mostly connects to the smaller local street of the residential area that sprawls around the city of Almere. In the two step of analysis we can see that this local street (green line) connects to the neighbourhood street (blue line) in the residential area. Because the availability of space in Almere is still high, the housing type of Almere mostly use cluster system so that needs a well connection. Because the lack connection in term of distance in Almere, people still depend on car to go to their destination. The public transport inside and outside Almere is still improving so that people do not use it frequently.
Noise
Noise is related to traffic. Traffic noise has become one of the serious problems in the recent years, especially in the urban areas. Noise depends on the speed and distance of traffic. Through the calculating traffic noise, I know that total noise is changeable by converting the data of distance to noise source and speed of vehicles.
