3.5 Plantation Analysis

A plantation is an intentional planting of a crop, on a larger scale, usually for uses other than cereal production or pasture. It is most often used for plantings of trees and shrubs.

The project site is at Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia, hill-top location in the tropical area which has wide rainforest surround the site. The bio-climatic agenda of this project focuses on controlled natural daylighting and cross-ventilation with integrated landscapping and vegetation – both on ground levels and roof terraces.

The roofs of the low buildings are all extensively landscaped and form spaces for outdoor events and sport activities. In turn, the landscapping form another thermal-shield at roof level, in response to the tropical sun-path.

In the year 2004, for several times, Jakarta achieved the Award of Cleanest and Most Beautiful City in Indonesia or called Bangun Praja Award. One of the factors is because of the spread green area inside the city. Kayu Putih, the location of the house, is one of several places in Jakarta that has wide green area and vegetation.

Because of the good landscape and vegetation at the secondary road connecting the main road and around the complex of the house, air and noise pollution from heavy traffic and industrialization can be reduced and eliminated. This house has 3 garden, wet garden in front of the house planted by grass and 2 dry sunken gardens inside and in the back of the house, that let the wind flow across the house brings oxygen during the day.
